The Digital Dojo

[blip.tv ?posts_id=682259&dest=15981]

The Digital Dojo is a very interesting place in which video blogging events are held to help people understand the many aspects of making and distributing video. One I attended was one of the “Super Happy Vlog House” events, held at various places in the United States. Are there SHVH events elsewhere in the world? I always enjoy going and learning about technical aspects of video making. I think the Dojo is great and Markus and Alicia are always so warm and welcoming to video bloggers of all levels. It is a beautiful place that has a peaceful atmosphere.

A Digital Dissertation

[blip.tv ?posts_id=605661&dest=15981]

There are three types of digital dissertation. The first is one in which a dissertation written for paper distribution is stored digitally. The second refers to a dissertation that is mostly paper-based but has a supplemental media component such as a related video or other media. Yet even in this example, the dissertation is said to stand alone, without the supplemental component. Professor Kuhn wrote a third type of dissertation, one that was “born digital.” This means that it is media rich and integrates media with text into a cohesive whole. No component can stand on its own, since the media and text are used together to convey particular analyses and conclusions. Impressions of Imprint

[blip.tv ?posts_id=391729&dest=15981]

I attended the Imprint Culture Lab event in Los Angeles and was particularly struck by discussions about Asian representation in media, Asian influences on pop culture and differences with regard to how to handle Asian stereotyps in media. Behind the Scenes at JETSET Live

[blip.tv ?posts_id=373262&dest=15981]

I attended the live production of the JETSET show held in Los Angeles on July 30, 2007. It was a very interesting event and I thank Zadi and Steve for allowing me to participate and learn about a number of themes of interest to the Digital Youth project I’ve been working on at USC, such as how people support communities through engagements with media. The event took on a serious tone as well with dance group Elastic Illusion’s intense discussion about their mobile lifestyle and nomadism.
